Located in Long Island NY
9.17.23 planted t1 creeping bentgrass, in the weeks prior dug out sod, layed a bed of mason sand, tilled and rakes. Rolled, topped with a few bags of scotts lawn soil, seeded and scotts starter soil.

9.21 first emergence

9.24 Humidity has been super high and constant rain, noticed some white around the base of some seedlings in spots, applied mefaxonim and another round of starter fertilizer.

@mowww has a great putting green. He may have put HOC info in his journal.

@livt0ride also has an awesome putting green. His journal might be useful as well.

@rhart also has a putting green. Check out his journal from this year too.

If I remember right, the idea for a green is to train it early to be cut low. I’m not sure if 0.5” is low enough when you start… I haven’t done the research, but maybe 0.3”-0.4” would be a better starting point? I may look this up later, too tired right now 😴

Start cutting it daily at a min of .25" and in my opinion rolling it this early does more harm than good. I would also lightly topdress once a week.

Thanks @rhart im cutting with a toro 122, does the weight of the mower do more harm then good, i had been cutting just with the push Scott reel mower because i was weary of the weight.
Not familiar with the toro 122. But the weight of a greensmower shouldn't be a problem. The mower weight is ok...just go off the green to make your turns.

When it's this young you have to be really careful not to turn in it. I tried to just roll with my mower before cutting and didn't make sure the bedknife was high enough and dug into the turf in a couple spots. Other than that it's fine to role at this stage.

had some tree guys take some trees down for more sun, past the time for good seed germination not happy not upset with progress so far. Stuff that’s in looks good bald spots are a bit disappointing but we’ll hit them in spring. Still fertilizing once a week and cutting every other day. Learned that I can slide the engine back on my mower which was good because there were times the front roller would dig in and make a rut.

@eric1104 So moved into the house in August after waiting for a 6 month close and was just really excited to get the green started. by the time i went to order seed t-1 was the only thing i could find, i shopped at united seeds. Looking at the ntep studies and being a total novice i just went with what looked best in my area which was the oakley, the centennial i used is a blend of oakley and piper. https://www.ntep.org/data/bt20g/bt20g_23-2/bt20gut122t.txt

Update from 5.1 cutting at .4, fertilizing each week, fungiciding, lots of sand. Some disease pressure you can see at the bottom of the picture. Hard staying patient but i feel it is making some progress, may start to get more aggressive plugging for the middle sections as the seeding has been hit or miss.
