I bought the guide, good information and links to videos of his on the topic. As you are in the USA, you will have access to most if not all the products he uses. Being in Canada, I have no such luck, but there are alternatives that are close in some cases.

I find it nice to have the booklet in print, but you don't NEED it. I have no regrets buying it, but I still end up coming here to yak and get more advice. The biggest problem is following the advice of too many individuals some times. Pick one, follow the advice and when you get your results, that's the time to decide if you need to try something else. Allyn is really good at explaining things more than one way, so you get *it*.

I watched his spring lawn care videos at the church in Indiana and followed what he did there this spring. It made a big difference in my lawn. I've since ordered the guide and printed it. Like the Kaptain said it is nice to have printed because you can make notes on the pages that correspond with what you did.

I bought it on his Father's Day discount which helped me find out what was in the thing.
If you believe in his program, or are comfortable loosely following it, it is helpful, but not required. A few tidbits here and there not found on his videos, and a few further explanations of certain approaches. Also, if you are into the N-Ext products or even interested, there is a section of info on that, aside from his hybrid organic approach.

It's really meant almost as a year 1 guide interested in making a lawn look better than it is. Which is where I am sitting. I am following it pretty close, but am altering it with additional research. I am not entirely sure this would be a guide for a 10 year lawn vet with a smoking green lawn.

I agree. It's really just to get people new to lawn care comfortable with doing it themselves. I don't think many of the resources on here would get much from it as they seem to be at a level beyond what the guide provides.

IMO, guides are just that a guide! I prefer to research out what I truly need, not what a guide tells me to do! Hence why I'm looking at Ammonium Sulfate, no LCN guide would ever suggest that!LOL

I get why he does it, for the people who just want to throw something down without screwing up their yard! If I hadn't screwed up my yard I wouldn't know 20% of what I do now!

Just doing math in my head for 5k: $150 for milorganite, $50 for pre-e, $25 for weed killer, $125 to aerate and overseed. Not considering the n-ext products, w come out to about $60/k, which is probably about 20% less than the commercial plans it's modeled from that he speaks about. Definitely a solid plan. I use it as a baseline.
