Does anyone mow there yard with different levels of cut?

Like most of us, my front yard is my favorite child which I mow at .75" so I'm considering mowing the surrounding side yard and back yards at more manageable height (1.5"?). also along my front flower beds, where I typically have to turn my mower after each pass shows wear from the mower. Does anybody leave a higher cut along edges for this reason? I'm picturing kind of like an intermediate cut or rough like you would see on a golf course.

Would love to see a picture if somebody else does this on their lawn.

Thanks!

Last year I maintained a circle around the kids playset @1.5". The surrounding grass was at 3". It looked pretty cool.

I currently mow my front a bit shorter than the rear yard. I am slowly working on leveling both the front and rear so when the low spots aren't an issue I'll drop the HOC in the back yard to the same as the front. I think all of our eventual goals for a tier 3 lawn addict are to mow it all reel low.

I do. About a week ago I scalped my lawn from around 3 inches to one half inch in one mow. It was way bad and I should not have done it but I wanted to see what would happen. It turned really bad like the second day. It still looks bad but it will recover. RGS?

Please do not tell anyone that I did this. I am sure to get hate mail for it if you do.
