Hi

I had this lawn for about 7 years. Apart from very basic maintenance (grass cutting, occasional fertiliser and occasional watering and weed removal) did not do much else. Every year I felt like I’m losing a battle.

It has slowly been taken up by weed and the patches of good lawn are now few and far between.

can anyone direct me on where to start please to get it back?

some photos included

the brownish patch had to rake out some moss recently.

the above feels very thin and seems like little soil. This is where the lawn is stepped on often -

Thank you for your reply.

I have applied a fertiliser maybe twice. And probably not at the right time or conditions. Just a bit of a sprinkle.

there are a few weed killer products that I had been using. The weed in part of the lawn is so widespread though, probably whatever I use is going to kill whatever lawn is left there and I guess after that I should re seed?

Sorry for my beginner status here.

The soil underneath also feels uneven with some areas dipping down etc. this is dealt with by adding more soil to it?
