Hello All,

I purchased my first home it is in Eastern Kansas, and let's just say the previous owners did not do a whole lot to help with the yard. There are quite a few bare spots that are going to need tending to, but I am putting together a game plan for next year to get my yard where I want it to be. I am completely new to all this and looking for some advice on what looks good or what I should change. Thanks in advance.

Early April - LESCO Stonewall 0.20% 13-0-0 30% Poly Plus OPTI Pre-Emergent Plus Fertilizer
Mid to Late May - LESCO Lockup Extra2 18-0-4 30% PolyPlus OPTI45 Post-Emergent Plus Fertilizer
Mid to Late May - Jonathan Green Lawn Fungus Control
Mid-June - Lebanon Broadleaf Weed Killer with Trimec Herbicide
Mid-June - LESCO 28-0-3 20% NOS 30% BIO 1.2Fe
Mid-August - LESCO 28-0-3 20% NOS 30% BIO 1.2Fe
Mid-November - LESCO NOSPlus Fertilizer 20-0-20 100% CRN Micros

Fertilize Kansas City Cool Season Lawns in September “September is the most important time to fertilize these grasses.”

Greetings from California. I manage about 16 acers of turf and been in the business for 30 plus years. Here is what we use/do.
1. Mulch your grass. This includes leaves too. Put that organic back into the soil.
2. We been using for a few years a product called screeming green fertilizer. It has chicken manual and some waste water by products. https://www.myscreamingreen.com/
They will even ship to you in 10 lbs bags. We use to use lesco product but after two years of this product I will not go back to lesco.
3. We apply a little bit of fert every month to grass. We have Zspayers so it makes quick work of feeding the lawn. Yea its more work but my lawns are super green.
4. If the lawn is thick you will not have weeds. We dont need a spray program for lawn weeds because the grass is so healthy. But when we do see them we spray or if we know crabgrass is around we will do a pre. In CA there are many restrictions of doing blanket applications of herbicides.
5. Get a smart controller to water the lawn. Want the best? then use hydropoint weathertrax system. WeatherTRAK LC+ Irrigation Controller | HydroPoint This service cost 240.00 a year because it figures out how much water to apply, just enough to keep it healthily. In CA we have to use them saves water and makes the grass green and lush. If you put a flow meter and master valve in, then it will detect leaks and if one is there you get a email and it shuts down that zone that is in trouble. Its cellular based so thats why your getting charged the 200 a year. You can log in and make any changes to the unit as you see fit. Rainbird makes a good one too. Need a good wifi connection.
Enjoy your lawn!

@imducknuckem I am in Eastern Kansas also. Lots of good advice in the above posts. Those N numbers and timing from K State are a good guideline. As you know our summer weather is not very conducive to cool season turf. Assuming you have TTTF also, this is what I currently try to do.
A pound of N in the spring from a pre-m app and another something else. 2-3 lbs of N in the fall.
This year my last spring app was May 1. My first fall app was October 1. Nothing in between. I believe I avoided some fungus by not fertilizing in the summer.
Also, not knowing what kind of shape your turf is in, you might need to get it up to speed. October is a good time to do that.
