late start to seeding. I thought I’d see what comes of it. All sod here is comprised of Canada #1 lawn mix. Wanted to see how this compares to it.
This seed surely take a long time to sprout. I was thinking of doing the pre germ idea, but it was already late and the are ready for seed. Torched the dry grass that roundup killer with a tiger torch and then put soil down.

Started on Oct 1st with soil, seed down Oct 4th. Left it exposed to the open air for a week and warred it religiously. Frost was on the horizon so I greenhouses it until this week. Tarping it at nite with a front blanked not that it’s sprouting. Weather is on my side this week. 62-68 all week.
Worms seamed to be enjoying the warmth under the plastic. Lots of mounds I noticed.

Please repost next spring, I would like to know how the KBG does through the winter.

I like the greenhouseing, but my concern is winter survival of a very slow establishing KBG.
I think I may build a cold frame depending on what the temps do. Should give a better chance of survival. The direct plastic layer I had on it was starting to grow moss on the soil.
I cover it at nite when expecting frost with a blanket.

I’m doing some dormant seeding as well. That’s a Rye and KYB Home Depot type seed though. I’ve seen seed put down late fall early winter come out good in spring.

We survived the winter. Pretty thin stand, I’m thinking of putting more seed down when things warm up or maybe just see what it does. The earth worms made a mess of the under the frost blanket I had on it in the fall. I’m qurious to see how this grass stands out from our seed mix here called Canada #1 40% Creeping Fescue, 30% Kentucky Bluegrass, 30% Annual Ryegrass.
