Keep The tree Ring or Let the Grass Fill In ???

Would you keep the tree ring or would you let the grass grow tight to the tree? Most days I get tired of fighting it and thought when I aerate I could remove the mulch and replace with cores.

I have 2 trees in grass areas. Have grass right up to both. 30 seconds max to string trim around both.

I think some tree rings and flower beds would look amazing, but the yard can be a lot at times as is.
As long as shade is not an issue I would let it fill in all the way to the tree.
I put landscape fabric down around our cherry. It has kept the Bermuda from growing in.

Even if you tried to let it fill in tight to the tree it wouldn’t look good or thrive. The roots of the tree will suck too many nutrients from your soil and not leave any for the grass. That’s the whole reason for tree rings and is why 95% of the time grass is very thin and unhealthy directly around trees
Having a nicely defined tree ring with reel mowed short turf is beautiful in my opinion

The roots from that tree stretch well beyond the tree ring.

Correct. But as you get closer to the base of the tree, there will be less and less nutrients available for other plant life. They draw their nutrients through the path of least resistance, closer is always easier than farther.
Remove the tree 😂

I’m down to two — my wife won’t let me remove any more 🤣

Maybe you can hire someone who will haul the tree and wife off 🤪
You could cut it down by half and keep the live edge. That would look super clean as well. Otherwise it’s a little large for a bare ring.

lol - wife is a keeper though. 😂 We just have a corner lot with no other shade, so I get it. But it takes forever to get it looking nice under the canopy and it’s never as thick as the rest. At least the river birch are long gone though. Those things were a mess.

You could always have a hurricane come through and take them all out. Trees that is... not wives.
