Is this root clubbing or just young roots on common Bermuda?

I’ve got an area that’s been slower to green up than the rest, it was also thinner than my other areas as well last year.I did notice this year with it being my second year in the house that it doesn’t start getting sunlight until about noon.

Today I pulled up some roots to see what they look like and they all look like this, I do believe I need to verticut the area due to a lot of previous dead runners.

So far this year I’ve done a granular prodiamine and the bag rate, insecticide for grubs and just two fertilizer applications. I just wasn’t sure if this could be root clubbing or just young roots.

Clubbing from pre-emergent.
That’s what I was afraid one when first coming across them. Assuming verticutting could help somewhat granted I only have the sun joe. Would you have any other ideas on how to help it outside or that?

I could rake the soil but since the roots are so shallow I feel like it might pull a bunch of runners up that have filled in a tad bit.
Reach out to @Mightyquinn. He is a Bermuda guy. I am a SA guy and see it on my stolons in the areas that were thin last year.
I haven't really dealt with this before as I am not very consistent with applying pre emergent but what does "bag rate" mean? Was it the 6 month control amount? Do you have a picture of the area in question?

I can get one here soon compared to my other area. It was just yard mastery bag of prodiamine I may stop doing a spring app in this area after this i haven't really had any giant weed issues besides spurge here and there, bag rate is 3/lb per 1k and the yearly maximum was 9lb per 1k. I'd say i went down at about 3.5lbs per 1k. I'm starting to wonder if I had some overlapping issues due to it being a narrower area but i'm really not sure. If I do prodiamine again I'll be spraying anyways, was a bag leftover from last year.

Temps have been consistently in the 80s, no 90s as of yet though just feels like this area is sort of lagging behind which I thought was due to no sunlight up until noon. I'll get some photos here in a few minutes.

Here are the areas that are lagging behind. Where I pulled up the runners. I feel like I’m in dire need of a verticut in this area, lack of sunlight isn’t helping either.

here’s the other part of the yard that is doing just fine. I’m cutting at 2” due to an uneven yard at the moment.

The resolution got nuked a bit from the upload, let me know if you need them at a higher res.
