Can't think of many other things that would cause this..

Is there a way to check to know for sure? I will just rip it out if that's the case.

Could it be a low spot where water collects? the sod around it seems dried out.

Has the sod rooted into the soil yet? (can you pull the sod up?). If it hasn't than its most likely in the sod itself.

Not really a low spot, that is where the sprinkler sits.. that could be it! Only a new spots that haven't rooted yet. The roots are coming though, you can see them when you lift up the corners.

1 more thing, is that where your sprinkler sits when you water?

Yup haha, ok I'll ride it out. Hopefully the brown spots fill in and make root contact.
