Hydrangeas not budding.

497 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  TLowe
I have two hydrangeas about 20 feet from each other on my west wall. They are at least 15 years old.
This year I don’t see any green budding on the old wood of either.
Only have new growth at the base. Should I trim off the old wood or wait?
Thanks.

Late start this year give some more time.
I was hoping that’s the case.
thanks.
I agree with the other person. Looks like you're fine. I have the same look on endless summer mopheads. However, I would trim that back by a third or half only b/c of the tight space.
How are they looking now?
Growing like crazy at the base but nothing on the old wood. I went ahead and trimmed the old wood down. I’m guessing a late frost hurt them 🤷‍♂️
