Do you rough up the soil a bit with a rake, completely turn it with some cultivating tool, or something else?

Personally, I rake it to rough it up, seed, make good contact, and then thin layer of peat moss. Water water water.

I'll rake it up a bit, nothing too rough.. seed, add a very thin layer of dirt over it and top dress with peat moss. When the peat looks dry, water. My bare spots have always filled in nicely.
