Good Morning,
Im just getting started on my irrigation design here. I should be running roughly 18gpm and at least 60psi. I’m thinking about using hunter MP rotator heads to minimize the number of zones I have to install. My biggest thought right now is that I have two long skinny strips on either side of my house. One is 76’x5’ and the other 53’x5’. I could use the 30x5ft spray heads and have water hit the cement foundation or I could design it a different way. Any thoughts?

You have a challenge and extra work due to the thin strips you are dealing with.

A rotary head covering only 5 feet is not a good choice since the heads are not that precise. Water constantly hitting the side of your house will grow algae on the walls.

IMO I would install spray heads against the house shooting out. Hopefully neighbors wont mind a little water on their yard. Use a 6 foot spray head which will cover around 10 feet along the house. You can use rotary heads in the larger areas.

I assume you will use different zones for lawn than for landscaping.

Like I said earlier, challenges and lots of PVC and heads.

Are you sure about 18gpm on 60+ psi? You've gotta have quite a water pipe to supply that much water flow at that pressure. Either way I'm in agreement with MP Rotators for your yard shape/size and I would suggest you stay with the MP Strips in order to keep the precipitation rates matched up. If you haven't seen this already the ideal layout for the heads would be a staggered placement in order to get even, head-to-head coverage.

I've used the MP strips and they work. But assume 4.5ft x 14ft in the spacing. Also, keep them in a separate zone since they seem to water slightly above 0.4in/hr.

Looks like a lot of shade on the sides.... be sure to zone on mostly sunny/mostly shady as well. Looks like beds/lawn on the side will be shady most of the day. and you will probably get some overspray on the house with the rotator strips. for the side lawns I would setup as separate zones and design for sprays and rotators using the 5x15' strip heads in case you don't like the rotators accuracy and place along the house side. Just use the same precipitation rate nozzles.
