I recently did a DIY reseeding of my front lawn, and planted tall fescue, but I am noticing a considerable amount of a different grass growing along with it :shock: I would appreciate any help in identifying this type of grass, as well as how to get rid of it without hurting the fescue.

I'm not sure what type of grass was here before I moved in. It was January when I moved in. I didn't use a pre e, but I'm afraid it my be crabgrass....

That looks like crabgrass. The seeds you used were 100% tall fescue? If so then I think you could use quinclorac at any time. You can use quinclorac 28 days post emergence with any grass.

I seeded 3 weeks ago.

I'm sure it was fescue, but I didn't put down a pre emergent. So that was probably my downfall. Should it just wait until the fall to seed or can I get rid of the crabgrass now?

And this won't kill the fescue? How soon after using this can I put more fescue seed down?

Not sure what quack is, but I belive now that it's crabgrass

This is a tough spot and why spring overseeds are so difficult (weed pressure, heat and disease)
If you are serious about an elite yard I would consider killing it all and doing a full reno this fall.

I hope you're right.. or at least I hope it's not quackgrass. It's the worst.
