I have been lurking for a couple years and figured I should communicate a little. Two years ago I resurrected my old (Mclane) reel mower I used back in the 90's when I was in California. She runs good, and it got me through a mowing season but started to have starting issues so I purchased a newer Mclane last year. I figure I will use her until I get a good handle on fertilizing, and get it perfectly leveled. I have been working on leveling every year, last year I went all out and purchased everything to do a complete leveling job (rake, drag, sand) and this year it's way better. I do have a few area's that need more sand, and one high spot, but I will fix those next year when scalping season comes around. Currently I am using a local service that does all fertilizing, as I am trying to grasp what all I need to do in order to completely cut them out without messing up or missing an application. I have a decent Bermuda lawn in the front ~1153.05 sq. ft., and Fescue on my side yards ~757.12 sq. ft., so it's pretty small and manageable. I am cutting less than .5 currently, however I need to check my settings and measure the grass to really know what it's at. I am reading as much as I can and trying to get a handle on the fertilization aspect of this, so things are going fairly well currently. This year I scalped fairly early, and got some Milo down and my grass was the only green lawn in the neighborhood, however we got a few late freezes to knock everything back. I am currently mowing, twice a week and I think I am passing the 1/3 rule and the lawn seems happy. I did however raise the HOC up a bit as some of the edges seemed to be getting a little scalped. What I am wanting to do is get down some Iron, so I am thinking to get a small pump sprayer, with the special attachments I found on another thread here, however I was thinking to possibly get a backpack sprayer? By having this size lawn should I just go with a pump sprayer for all my needs? Look forward to learning more and sharing my experience. I tried to post a pic, but I guess it's not working?

I will take a look at that, I do like the idea of the backpack sprayer rather than carrying something.

Is this what your talking about?

That's the one. I also have one and really enjoy it.

Welcome. There is an Oklahoma thread in the Hometown Discussions board. There are a few people from around here with some great knowledge.

I just ordered a my4sons sprayer. I hope to have it by the weekend so I can try it out.

I was thinking of asking this same question. I have about 2,000 sq ft of grass and I don't know if I can justify buying a battery powered one even though it would be super nice. From what I saw, the price difference was about $80 + attachments.

Edit: Ok it's over $100 difference...would be nice though.

There is a cool thread on here for sprayer, sprayer tips, etc. I think DFW posted it. I have a backpack blower and absolutely love it, but I think you are right it would be overkill but who knows... I might go for one of the cool ones, but I have to quit looking at upgrading my current mower...

Haha me too! I'm just now getting into my lawn now that I have new sod down and it's level. I had been using a fiskars push mower but it only goes down to 1". I looked on craigslist for a used reel mower but it turns out my grandfather-in-law had one sitting in his shed. The only problem is it hasn't been used for 15 years so it needs some work. Now I have to wait for my husband to fix it because I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I really want a Swardman Electra. I think it would be perfect for someone like me. Convincing my husband it's a good use of money for me to cut the lawn is another story. So right now, I'm saving (probably for the next few years) and hoping they come down in price a little.

I took a look at the My4sons sprayer and purchased one too. I figured that I could use this for many different jobs at the house, turf, bugs, misting for mosquito's. I noticed the yellow cone tip was for fine mist, do you think this will work for applying insecticides to spray for mosquito's. I purchased some insecticides that M. Joe uses, hoping this will help as the pests are bad this year.

I haven't used the yellow nozzle yet, but I assume it would work good for that.

So the first application I was going to use with the sprayer is putting down some FAS, have you done this yet?
I had a few questions, at what rate does this go down, I think the sprayer has 10psi - 60psi. Is there a happy medium or do have to play around with it to find the sweet spot? And what tip would you use for the application?
