Have I found a way to pretty much kill all the Bermuda in my back yard? I started my lawn from seed two summers ago. The front is Yukon and the back is BlackJack. I live in Lenoir NC which is zone 7B. The grass in the back has almost completely died. There are a few sprigs here and there. The front is coming in pretty good. Last summer the back looked pretty good for a new lawn started from seed. I am thinking that I might have suffered from winterkill. The temperatures in April and May have fluctuated from the high 80's to freezing. I scalped the back in early April. Applied pre emergent in early April. Applied some fertilized less then 1lb per thousand. The ph in the back is low around 6 the front is 6.5. I have added lime this past weekend. I guess my questions are. Am I going to have to start fresh? Is the grass just stunted and slow to comback? Was it the cold or low PH? Is the Yukon just that much better? I am really frustrated and a bit discouraged by this. I was really looking forward to the third year as I have read that is the year the grass really takes off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I made some sense I had to get this out quickly since I am at work. I have added some pictures of the front, back and the back from last year

The front yard pic is from about two weeks ago. It is Yukon Bermuda, it was started from seed about two years ago. The front should be completely filled in about another week or so.

Yeah its a nice area, maybe not the best for Bermuda but I do not like Fescue.

What am I looking for in the stolons? The back is getting plenty of sun and heat(Well if it would stop raining it will)Maybe I will dig up a plug and see what the roots look like. If it is truly dead would the roots be gone?

I checked out the presentation. Thats pretty good. Im thinking thats what got me. I guess the good side of it is that we are planning on putting in a pool and that will destroy about half the yard. I will feel a lot better about them digging up dead grass then if the yard was looking good. I just wish I would have put Yukon everywhere.

Not looking to good for theBlackjack. If it hasn't started to green up yet that's a problem. And yes Yukon is a lot better than blackjack in winter survival. I feel your pain on such a hard winter. Since I had such a difficult renovation I had a lot of contamination last year from common Bermuda. This winter killed all the common dead. So my Yukon if filling in a lot this year. How much land in the back didn't green up? Your could scalp and re seed

I think that is what I am going to do. I will reseed with all Yukon this time. I also plan on transplanting some plugs and rhizomes from the front. Im just kind of worried about the pre emergent that I put out. With all the rain we have had (6" last week alone) I would imagine it is pretty much washed out. If I put down pre emergent in early April would I be alright to put down seed? Im going to be losing a lot of yard to the pool install and a lot more will get torn up with septic lines being run.
