After I placed 10lbs. of Bermuda seed on properly prepared and fertilized turf in conjunction with a test pan, watered every day other than rain days for a month. They then have the audacity to imply it's my fault, that's absurd when not one seed germinated. Then to offer a 20% discount on more of the same, that's the earmark of extremely poor customer satisfaction. No doubt they'll soon discover there's a problem with that lot number although I'm certain they could care less.

based on a recent seeding i did, watering twice a day was barely adequate. i watered before work, and by the time i got home to water the second time, it looked pretty dry. Three times would have been better. of course it also depends on your local conditions, but I don’t think once a day is nearly enough.

Were there instructions on the label about watering rates? I don't have experience growing bermudagrass from seed, but from what I have seen on this forum, those who have done it seem to be obsessive about watering during the first week or more (multiple times per day) to prevent seed from drying out.

w/o additional info, I'm with the seed company.

•What city/region are you in?
• Which variety of Bermuda?
•Was the seed kept damp through out day light hours, not dry, not soggy?
•Did you use any type of fertilizer?
•Did you use any type of "weed" preventative product before seeding ... how long ago?

I seeded my 1.5 acres 4 years ago with Yukon from Hancock. I had hoses & sprinklers everywhere. I would water several times a day until it started to puddle then moved to another spot. It was a challenge for sure.

Did you by chance put down any pre last fall?

When I seeded some of my yard, I had the irrigation running 5 times a day for anywhere from 2-5 mins. I used one of those cheap moisture meters from Amazon and checked the first two inches of soil on areas of my lawn to dial in the irrigation. I had to ensure it wasn't too wet or too dry. I also covered my entire seeded area with peat moss for moisture retention and that was super helpful imo.

My guess is you didn't water enough or the soil temps aren't high enough where you are. No way to know without knowing your location. I have read starting a Bermuda lawn from seed isn't the easiest process in the world. Is a little surprising not 1 seed germinated but depending on my weather if I only watered my TTTF seed once a day on days it didn't rain then I'm sure I would have seen very little if any germination.

No, watered plenty plus rain San Antonio, TX so soil temperature was above 70 degrees. NONE Germinated in a test pan with fresh garden soil.

So it has been how many weeks? Does Hancock give a "typical" germination day/week range? Sometimes seed germination takes longer than we'd think.

• was the seed burried at all or just left on the soil surface ?

•damp ... as in kept that way all day or watered til damp once or twice a day ?

•The Turf Builder, which one? ... they make so many. A fertilizer for established grass vs a starter fertilizer can be an issue. Also just check to make sure there isn't some sort of active ingredient listed that is some type of herbicide.

Here is a huge reason I believe there is something else in play ... technically seed doesn't "go bad". Germination chances will decrease over many many years, but something is still going to germinate. Here around Phoenix, many big box stores have the seed they sell sitting on shelving outside in 100° temps for months and it still germinates. Zero germination would be extremely odd.

Having a test pan/pot with kept damp soil, in 55°-85° range and zero germination is on a similar level of unlikely to being a solo ticket purchaser/winner of a global lottery worth a trillion dollars.

There has to be something else in play.

This all seems like a campaign to disparage a company without providing necessary details. Gauging the responses you’ve given, and the back tracking, I don’t think the company is in the wrong, but that you’ve made some errors preventing their product from working. My $.02, spend it as you will.
