We're greening up nicely after a few cold weeks (for Vegas). Is it bad that I want to just cut out all of this fescue and re-sod with bermuda grass so I can start mowing with a reel mower? I'm not sure if it will happen, (my wife thinks I'm crazy) but seeing all of the beautiful reel-cut lawns on this forum has made me antsy to make the change.

Yes it is a very bad idea to replace your beautiful lawn with a weed called Bermuda.

You can feel cut a cool season lawn too. All you need is a reel mower. Look at these lawns:

I don't believe KBG would survive our summers here where we usually are at or above 100 degrees from June through September and have a few weeks in July and August where we hit 110-115. The sod farm that supplies Las Vegas only carries this fescue blend that I currently have and 3 types of bermuda ( Tifway 419, Tifway II, and Tifgreen 328) http://www.valleysod.com/residential_sod.php#page-top. Cutting my fescue even at the max height of most reel mowers would be too short for it, wouldn't it?

This reel mower will work great in 1500sqft.

I've already had a few email conversations with Michal at Swardman! This would be the mower I'd go with if I decide to go forward with the project. Glad to see they've got a distributor set up through reelrollers.com.

Nuke it, sod Bermuda, reel mow it, enjoy life.
Mow it for 3-4months before it goes dormant and brown. :-D

@asagers As you could tell there is a difference of opinions between having a lawn or growing a weed (Bermuda).

I dont think KBG will be a viable option in Las Vegas. Bermuda or a Warm season lawn would be more suitable. It is only 1500 sqft, so not a huge expense to go with bermuda sod. You could always overseed with PRG in the winter for a year long green lawn.

Yep, that's exactly what I would do. Try to pull off the "Ware" backyard!
