Another super had a fraze mower come in and do some work on his range tees. First time seeing it in person, but it's pretty awesome - he took off roughly .75". He had 3 dump trailers to handle all of the material and it was just barely enough to keep up with the machine. It took most of the weeds out and left stems/stolons. He said that after 6 days, it's starting to green up.

It's been amazing to see the videos on fraze mowing. I am wondering how long it will take for it to spread and become a common maintenance practice. With that being said, I noticed my city is using rotary mower to cut all of the soccer and football fields. We have rocket scientists and NASA here, but we can't wise up to learn that using rotary mowers are better for the turf.

I think it's already there. We've batted around the idea of using one - main reason we went to see it done. I know up North, the courses are using them to remove Poa from the seedbed. This crew just got off of a job that took 4 days and saw them do all the tees at a course - the price is very reasonable, too!

Here in Decatur the do use reel mowers on all of the fields .... well, except at Jack Allen Soccer Complex. In their brilliance, our city management ripped out some serious bermuda and put down artificial turf, claiming it's lower maintenance. So four years ago, you spend over a million building soccer fields with what appeared to be Celebration bermuda, full irrigation, equipment for maintenance, and the labor to build it. They also over seeded it with rye. Now you say it's cheaper to tear it out and spend more money to replace it with something that required more equipment and will need to be swept regularly rather than mowing. Brilliant!

I just don't think people "get it" when it comes to turf management in hsv. I graduated from Columbia and going into my freshman year they put in a practice field with 419 and bought a triplex to maintain it. About 3 months later the triplex got a flat tire. When I graduated they were still using a zero turn to cut all of the fields while a brand new triplex set in storage.
