Out of curiosity, at what point do you guys do your first mow, not including the scalp? Do you let the whole yard turn green, or when exactly since all yard sections don't green evenly.

My grass doesn't grow evenly this early in the spring. I wait until one section needs a mow, then I do the entire lawn.

Do you apply the 1/3 rule on that mow as well. I'm going to try to grow mine at 1 inch this season. Granted, I've got single blades that are taller than that now

I did scalp, but just to the lowest setting my push would do. I'm actually going to get a rider so I can mow my 13k multiple times per week

I don't really think I ever have a actual "first" mow. After scalping, I will usually just mow the lawn about once a week as it is greening up and filling all in and also to help clean it up from all the wind and rain we get in the Spring, so it's more of a gradual thing. Once I am mowing more than once a week that is when the PGR starts going down

I scalped last Saturday and am awaiting the first cut of green. I'm seeing green up start but nothing at a mowable height yet for me. I will be cutting at 1.25"
