Of course the price of everything is rising and that def includes fertilizer. Are any of you stocking up and what is the best way to get through this economically? We all want green lawns but without breaking the bank.

I'm only buying torn bags this year. I got a nearly full 50lb bag of lesco 24-0-11 slow release for 22$ (normally 50$) I might pick up a bag of soybean meal 50lb for about 25$ from the feed store to promote worm activity. That's about it, gonna keep it super simple this year. I will look out for starter fert torn bags to use in the fall for overseeding if it's needed this year, not sure yet...hopefully not. Shoot, even if it is I may not do it because of the seed shortages. everything is 50%+ more expensive currently. I can wait.

I typically just wait for the end of the season for items to go on clearance, then I just pile them up in my garage for the following year. Last year I cleared out a store of 40 lb bags of 10-10-10. They were normally $13 each and they were marked down to $3. No big box store wants merchandise that takes up that much space sitting in their back room or on the sales floor going into the holiday season. If it's on clearance, ask to talk to a manager and see if you can negotiate down even further. Odds are they will say yes or make a really good offer to clear them out.

I stocked up last late summer and fall on ProPeat from HD (free delivery) and was surprised to see that just this month it was the same cost as late last summer/early fall, Plus i got a coupon from HD for $15 off $100, so it was even less costly. Nice surprise.
I just looked up ProPeat really interesting product line even though I'm choking on fertilizer I think I might try next season

I used it for the first time last season and I really liked the results I got. Small uniform prill size, I spread 1/2 of a 25lb bag per ~9,500 FT2 every 2 weeks in April, May, June and September. Enough N per growing season at 1.75 - 2 Lbs/1,000 FT2. I can imagine that most Bermuda sod owners would think it's expensive for the amount of N that bermuda needs compared to Zoysia lawns. I use 17-0-4 and 13-5-8 for Zenith and Emerald depending on soil test results.
You might also want to check out ProPeat on YouTube and Lawn Ginja as well as other reviews.

Menards is great for cheap granular fertilizers, specifically their Forever Green products. These bags cover 10ksqft and cost between $15-20. I've been using them for years. Sometimes you can find them under $10 during a sale.
I am not a fan of how he treats his employees....it's so hard not to grab their cheaper Milorganite clone
