Ive gotten my hellstrip looking good but people constantly let their dogs pee in it. Anyone know of a solution that will make the dogs keep on moving? Heard cayenne and things like that but haven't tried anything yet. Don't want a sign and its far too many people to talk to

Kind of on this topic, I have neighbor cats (Strays they feed) tearing up parts of my yard to poop and them pushing the dead grass back over. Also some loose neighborhood dogs using it as well.

Anyone got any ideas how to deter them besides shipping them to the animal shelter?

I spray random stuff close to the grass (borders) but not on it, like human urine, vinegar, citronella oil, etc. No dog or cat issues. They won't pee if they smell something they don't like. Need to keep repeating it though as heavy rains will mute the scents.

I also make a habit of talking to the dog owners when I'm outside, just a hello to let them know I'm a grass nut and keep your dog clear. The majority are cool and strike up a conversation. The minority get the stare and keep moving along :)

Chilli powder irritates them but I haven't tried it as the above works for me.

Hellstrip. Is that what the strip of grass between the sidewalk and street is called?

If so, why is it called that?
🤣. Don't act as if he just made it up (because you never heard that), when in fact gardeners all over the country use that term.

I have also heard "vanity strip" which really sounds stupid! I think "hell strip" because it typically "looks like 'hell' " in most yards/neighborhoods.

lol I didn't. Normally I google first, then ask questions...but it got the best of me this time. -- It makes perfect sense to be called that too. I know for me, that area has gotten very little attention by way of reseeding/watering and it shows. Just mow and weed prevention. - My neighbor keeps busting my chops about not taking care of that strip to match my lawn. It's a pain to get my sprinklers over there, 'and' to cover my lawn, so I just leave.

Maybe next year is the year I'll tackle getting it to look better than it does..
