We moved into our current house 27 SEPT 2019. Here is a picture of the lawn we inherited.

When spring 2020 hit, there were more weeds than grass. I hadnt found this site yet, so I hit it with all sorts of chemicals. Some worked, some didnt. My wife and I ended up spending time each night ripping weeds out by hand. When we each filled a 5gal bucket, we'd stop for the day. Shockingly, that process went on for a looooong time.

I spot leveled an area, fired my landscaper in April and took over the upkeep, and fertilized as best I could.

Here are some pictures from 03 JUL 2020

I found this site when I ran into irrigation issues around AUG, and I'm so glad to have this resource!

Here is a picture from last week, as things are declining into fall.

The lawn still has a nasty thatch issue, and feels like you're walking on a wet sponge. Come spring time, I will scalp, dethatch, level and start reel mowing. Will definitely post updates as actions take place. Just wanted to get the thread primed for action!

Looking good! I wasn’t sure how I would like the wider stripes from the 2500e vs my Jacobsen Eclipse 2 but man it’s tough to not admire them.

Looks like the verticut/scalp combo solved the runners sticking up issue?

it sure did. I set the blades deeper than usual to be as aggressive as possible, and they cut those runners and pulled up all sorts of debris.
An update on my rotary scissors; they are fantastic for cutting low like a reel, but for trimming the base of my metal fence, not so much. I ordered a Dewalt electric trimmer for this purpose.

Do you run the idech rotary scissors or the stihl? I have heard that the idech rotate both blades but the stihl only rotates one. Not sure if that is true or not, but I’d think that the Stihl rotary would be able to get closer to stationary objects like a wall or fence if only one blade is rotating.
I have the idechs. I dont think its the blades, but the frnce post spacing amd the crap that grows through them. The loose string cleaned that out more.

Decided to convert a rock bed to grass, to match the main area of the back.
