We moved into our current house 27 SEPT 2019. Here is a picture of the lawn we inherited.

When spring 2020 hit, there were more weeds than grass. I hadnt found this site yet, so I hit it with all sorts of chemicals. Some worked, some didnt. My wife and I ended up spending time each night ripping weeds out by hand. When we each filled a 5gal bucket, we'd stop for the day. Shockingly, that process went on for a looooong time.

I spot leveled an area, fired my landscaper in April and took over the upkeep, and fertilized as best I could.

Here are some pictures from 03 JUL 2020

I found this site when I ran into irrigation issues around AUG, and I'm so glad to have this resource!

Here is a picture from last week, as things are declining into fall.

The lawn still has a nasty thatch issue, and feels like you're walking on a wet sponge. Come spring time, I will scalp, dethatch, level and start reel mowing. Will definitely post updates as actions take place. Just wanted to get the thread primed for action!

@Deltahedge I am happy with the verticutter. If I need to dethatch I just set the blades to penetrate the soil deeper. Seems to do the trick as it pulls up more. I could always use my flails, but havent had the need yet.
The triplex is the way to go if you can. Knocking my backyard out in less than 15min is awesome.

Did the cutter work out ok and were you able to get a set screw for it? Nice looking green setup.

yup, worked fine. I actually just used a 5/16” bolt that was laying around. I’ll get a proper set screw next time I’m at hd/lowes.
Ran the 260 w the groomer today to try and get rid of my loose stolons. Got some of them, but will need a verticut as soon as I can get a few parts for that unit.

Did a heavy verticut in two directions, then hit the uglies with the 2500. Will break out the backpack blower and do some cleanup later today.

Did that take care of the stolons that weren’t tacking down? I’ve noticed quite a number showing up the past week or so

it sure did, and then some.
with warm temps and rain in the forecast, it was great timing. Hoping to have it back in high gear by 10 Jun when im hosting a big bbq.

Looks like I’ll be trying another scalp then to try and get rid of the uglies in my yard as well
Will grab some pic later, but cleaning up this mess was far worse than my scalp. No wonder the lawn was struggling!
One night & irrigation cycle later, already looks better.

Current green status. Sanding will seemingly never be done, but we are making serious progress!
