But we do like to mow reel low. ;) I finally read the instructions on the Scott's reel, and dropped the HOC to 1". What a difference going low makes. I can't wait to get a powered reel, because I could be leaving stripes already. I'll just settle for tire tracks.

It was really windy today, but it was beautiful. Temps in the middle 80's, less than 80% humidity, and some gusts in the 30 MPH range.

Awesome!! How long does it take to mow your lawn?which model mower is that? I have a lot of slopes so I'm worried about how hard it would be, but would it be worth it to get one??

Honestly, I haven't timed myself on how long it takes to mow the front, which is ~ 5,500 sqft. The back yard is another story. I took my rotary mower out for a spin, and regretted doing that. It scalped my good stand of grass, but did the weeds pretty easily. That's why I can't wait to start levelling.

In total, I'd say it was about 45 minutes or so this time, with a double cut. The grass was naturally thicker, because I was dropping the HOC 1/2". It takes slightly less time when I'm just doing a normal double cut, with criss-cross. The mower is a Scott's Classic 16", which is the mower that Home Depot sells. It is capable of cutting down to 1/2". It's not a workout, but it is work. It's fairly easy to push, and just check the reel-to-bedknife contact every time, and you'll be good. Economical way to get started, and you might be able to pick up a like new unit on Craigslist when people buy them, and realize they don't want to walk. I guess push mowing with an "old school mower" isn't people's cup of tea. To me, I feel like I'm able to control my cut better than a push mower, and I know I have a better cut with the reel vs. rotary.

That's exactly the song I was thinking of when I created the title, but I couldn't remember it, and was too lazy to look it up. However, they are all walking, and not running :)

Yeah, the dirty sock line was strong last night. Most of this summer (once the grass came in) was done barefoot. No sandal line FTW.
