I have roughly 4,000 sq. ft. of Tiftuf sod laid last May. It has developed beautifuly, was looking great before it went dormant in the fall. Last year I was mowing at 2.5 - 3 inches due to the unlevelness of the sod that was installed. My goal is to get to a HOC of one inch.
I want to top dress it with a local compost that has had huge success around town, but I also need to level it with sand. Can this be achieved together by mixing the compost and sand? If so, what percentage of compost to sand? If not, which should I do first, sand level or compost top dress?
Our next two weeks are calling for upper 70's, low 80's so I went ahead and set my mower at one inch and scalped. Some areas are sub one inch and some are plus. I can now see a light shade of green throughout my yard as green up has already started. With wanting to keep a HOC around one inch, will this be a low enough scalp since I am top dressing and leveling? or do I need to take it down lower?
