Hello everyone,
I need an advice is it possible to use compost (little layer 1/4) to cover the grass seeds instead to buy peat moss ?
I asked to different AI apps and they say yes. What do you think?
Thanks,
Flavio

I’ve used both, if you go compost make sure you don’t go too heavy, I buried some seed I need to reseed. It is also easier to tell if Peat needs more water, compost you have to be dialed in. Also I have nutsedge I have to deal with after thanks to compost but that’s whatever.

I think there is something with the soil layers when using peat vs compost, since peat takes forever to break down. I like organic matter so I lean compost now. Either works.

moss is expensive around here compared to compost.
Do not use compost from a local municipal leaf dump worst thing I ever did. I never had so many weed only buy from a reputable composter.
I’ve been told her multiple times even by the driver who dumped it off into my yard don’t use more than one cubic yard for 1000 ft.² it’s more than enough.
I’ve done small sections of my yard here and there. But I think in another year or two I’m gonna rent one of them compost spreaders and one of those dingo the loaded itand do my whole yard one whack. Then I should be good for a good long while.
