Certainty or Dismiss

Ive got both accessible to me locally. Neither store really knows about dismiss though. One didn't even know he carried it until he found a bottle on the shelf. The Bermuda Triangle says to use Celsius/certainty. I've somewhat looked and can't find a definitive answer, is certainty or dismiss better for a blanket app combined with Celsius in West TX on Tiff 419?
This is for sedge weeds.

I dont know between the 2, I havent used dismiss, but I blanket sprayed certainty and all of the sedge is gone now. My 419 yellowed a little but bounced back rather quickly. So I can tell you that certainty does work. Takes a couple weeks though.

Certainty is slow, but it systemically kills the sedge. Dismiss is more of an addition or kicker to make the Certainty work faster. However, if Dismiss is applied as 3 applications at the equivalent of 4 oz per acre each application, it acts like a pre emergent for sedges.

Perfect. Thank y'all.
Sounds like certainty is the answer. I'm ok if it's takes a couple apps. Just as long as it's dead.
I'm mixing Celsius to it, I know Celsius/Certainty isn't a sensitive mixture together.

I had this same question a few weeks ago and ended up buying both, but I am returning the Dismiss. I think that Dismiss will kill a more broad range of weeds compared to Certainty, but if you are following the Bermuda triangle Celsius and Certainty have been said to kill about 90% or more of what's in most yards.

The other big difference I keep hearing is that Certainty doesn't have a temp restriction like Dismiss does.

I feel better that you returned the Dismiss in favor of the Certainty. Even though it's cheaper per app, this stuff gets rather expensive in the initial buy. Don't want to get the wrong stuff.

I have both (in houston) and I like dismiss much better for sedge. I have never had a problem yellowing my grass when spraying it, I am about to blanket spray this week. I think the key to avoiding the yellowing issue is to spray it at the cool season rate (.092oz/k). At that rate, all my sedge is yellowing within 24 hours. I have also sprayed in the mornings in the dead heat of summer. All I do is allow the dismiss to sit there for a few hours and then run a quick cycle of my spinkler to wash the rest off several hours later (similar to what a lot of people do when applying urea)

Dismiss is quicker but has the potential to ding the grass a little more. It has temp restrictions. It also kills goosegrass.
Certainty has no temp restrictions, its a slower kill. Plus it kills Poa A.

I have both, There are both good to have around.

Do you tank mix all 3 together (Celsius/certainty/dismiss)?

True as recommended Dismiss temp is maxed at 85. May have to look into picking up some certainty as well.

However if the temps are right a Dismiss (Sulfentrazone) / Sedge Hammer (Halosulfuron) combination is extremely good. When i first got my home i had all sorts of sedges purple, yellow, everything. Heard Matt Martin from TGF talking about this combo so i tried it and it smoked all of my sedges. Everything.

My wife rolled her eyes real hard when I told her I wanted to get Certainty and Dismiss. She is fine with the yard being green even if that means its all weeds like it was when we first moved in. I hope I can fake it till I make it with this yard and my bermuda fills in enough that its nice and soft to walk on by mid to late summer. I dont have pictures right now but the sedges (I think they are yellow nutsedge) that I sprayed are already starting to die after only about 4 days so Im really happy about that!

Another thing to consider with the Certainty is that the 1.25oz can treat 1 acre so even if you have a large yard it will last many years even if you have to blanket spray.

Agreed on the low cool season rate. You don't need to blast the weeds with a high rate for the herbicide to be effective. Also if it's cool enough throw in some surfactant and AMS to make it a nice weed killing cocktail.

I just did a celsius/certainty blanket app and went over it with spot spraying sulfentrazone. Get the quick knockdown of sulfentrazone with the lingering kill of certainty.
