Central Missouri lawn renovation

Attempting my first lawn renovation. Applied my first application of glyphosate at 5 oz per 1000 8 days ago. Got the lawn mowed down to 2 inches. Will be doing 2 more applications of glyphosate at 5-6 oz per 1000 10 days apart roughly. I’m located in central Missouri. Will be trying a monostand of Mazama Kentucky bluegrass. Should I use my electric dethatcher to remove more dead grass or just try to mow it down to 1.5 inches. My yard before was a pretty thick stand of tall fescue. I am planning on a seed down date of august 9-16 somewhere in there. Is that too early? I do have an irrigation system. My plan when I seed is to put half the seed down, then go over it with my electric Dethatcher with the scarifier attachment on it and then put the other half the seed down. Anybody have any tips. This is my first Reno and first time trying Kentucky bluegrass

If you have not done it , dial in your irrigation system now .
Water as usual to push new growth and weed germination and apply gly as more green comes up .
IDK anything about KBG
I suppose like any grass timing is key
Seed down when soil temps drop and the threat of summer heat has passed. Then enough time before the first frost to establish.

have you had a soil test?
my most successful seeding was with a larger commercial walk behind over seeder.
Had rollers/cutters and seeds dropped down into these slits . Made for a nice even dispersal . The rental place only had the small ones now which suck imo

No soil test. I will look into the slice seeders

I would look up the first average frost date in your area and count back from there. I like at least 2 months. KBG takes so long, I am targeting mid August as well.

Don't leave the seed exposed after you hit it with the scarifier. I would top dress a thin layer or at least gently rake to get it some protection from the birds.

You might find you are a week in after seeding and see nothing coming up, keep the faith.

Great advice! Thank you

When I planted my Mazama KBG a few years ago I did the bare minimum of killing it off and then mowing as low as my mower would go. I did a couple passes and bagged up clippings. I then applied seed and watered and it came up just fine. I only had a 1k sqft area so not my entire lawn. Was it the best possible way of doing it? Probably not but still had decent results. If I remember right I did my seed in early Sept. I think Mid August is fine if you can keep it wet enough. As you know, now till late August is typically our warmest part of the year.

Mazama KBG Reno update. Seeded august 12th and re-did some spots 2 weeks after that. Second mow at either 1 or 1.5 inches, the lowest my push mower goes. I’m happy with the progress so far. Hopefully will fill in some more this fall and next spring.
