My Blue Mesa Sheep Fescue has seeded out this year. It's been two years now I guess so it's matured. This stuff is so weird up close. It's tough as nails. I can't stress how bad this dirt is. It was the area that the excavator operator just cleaned up after he finished the rock work on the hill. It's pretty much sand and gravel. I watered to get germination and that been pretty much it. Full sun facing southwest and on a slope. Very tough grass. I like it.

Figured I'd give it a clean up cut and certainly broke the 1/3rd rule.

What a year for moisture. First wet season since I started this lawn. You just can't match true rainfall. 5" in the last 8 days and this lawn is just loving it. It's way too long but I haven't had a chance to mow over the holiday weekend. I'm just sitting on it right now, enjoying the perfect weather. Don't need a chair anymore.

I wanted some shape and mounds around the larger green and also needed to hide thousands or rocks....so I put them together and built a huge sloped hill out of tons of rock which I think will look nice in rough length grass directly behind the green. Hopefully I can grow grass on it. It's way larger than I thought it was going to be.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Tough starting a new channel but a couple of people are watching.

I am doing another pumpkin this time on a pile of last falls leaves. I'm way behind because the snapping turtles love to lay their eggs in the warm pile of leaves and they steam rolled my small plant so I had to start over. I'm going to do it in just one video from start to finish so it won't be up until the fall.

Almost done the subgrade shaping of the two greens. It was the first not so enjoyable job on this project. So hard to dig down 10" or so with the equipment I have. Digging the soil is fine but so many rocks everywhere.

I think I'm close to final size and shape now. I got some wind back in my sails when I was re-reading the USGA green building info packet and they state that this is usually the toughest part of the green build.

I'm going to get the local superintendent out for a quick look before I start drainage pipe and gravel layer on the greens, to make sure I'm looking ok.

Ordering gravel for the weekend.

Will the drainage affect the pond?
That's a good question, but I don't think so. I'm going to have that small green drain out of the hill that's about 40 feet from the pond. I would fertilize the greens but I just don't think it will be a problem.

First off I'm so sand and gravely here I honestly don't know if I had to do drainage at all. It poured the other day and I had a couple small 1/2" deep puddles in the bowl that I dug out for the greens, and they were gone in 30 mins. I'll be interested to watch in big storms how much or if anything comes out of that pipe.

And if it does come out, it will hit 40 feet of lawn to get through, absorb into before it hits the pond.

Gotcha, I thought maybe it was going directly into the pond.
The set up you have here is awesome, looking forward to seeing the progress. This would be the dream project for me, golf and landscaping, nice.

Are you planning on getting seed down this year?

Yes, seed down I think is the short answer. I bought the fairway rye grass 2 years ago, ha! It's been a slow go with working on the house, family, work and life but all the other work is pretty much cleared.

I'd love for greens and fairway to be seeded and think I can. Rough will go with fairway so that should work too. I could probably bring rootzone mix in here in 2 weeks but I need water first. Have to get a garden shed up with water pump and irrigation. That will be my biggest hurdle but should be do-able. I can't see a scenario where the greens aren't growing this year, unless some disaster.

There's a ton of irrigation pipe, heads and pump shed to do but I'm going to go for it. I learned a lot on the front yard so I know I can start grass late up here.
