I thought I would ask you guys what you typically do with herbicides. This is my first summer on my 1 acre now. I have a handful of dandelions popping up here and there with more to come I'm presuming. And also some wild violet? From what I can tell, that I also saw last fall as well. Would you guys just pull them, spot or blanket just to get the ones you miss? Otherwise the rest of the yard looks pretty decent. Im thinking walking around pulling would take the same amount of time as just a blanket. I saw my neighbor the other day walking up and down every lawn mower path just spot spraying. Which took him quite some time. And I'm sure he didn't hit every one. What are your thoughts?

Spot all the way, unless it's a true infestation. I go out every 10-14 days armed with my 2,4-D/triclopyr cocktail and just walk around and spray what I see. Every time there's less and less, and eventually it should be close to nil.

I have about 22,000 SF of turf, and 2 gallons of my cocktail will cover the whole area spot sprayed. I use most of it in the back yard (12,000 SF) where I have a serious clover and broadleaf breakout. Whatever areas I miss are clearly visible on the next round of spraying.

Remember, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. :)

Ive been leaning towards spot myself. Just load up the tank while mowing and using the wand as I mow. Time is just always my biggest issue. That was why I was thinking if blanket. But I hate throwing down more than I need to. Especially if its not entirely needed.

I too prefer to spot spray. The first time will take a little while but after that it should get much better. Usually takes me 20 minutes to do my half acre and most of that is just walking time. I'm to a point now where a gallon of mixture is about too much.

Ill be the black sheep. In my front lawn, I like to do a blanket app. I get one of the Ready to Spray Weed B Gon with Crab Control and do the whole lawn. It's so easy in that it hooks right up to the hose and one bottle covers my front and side yard perfectly. Just did it the other night. Now going into summer, I will spot spray as needed with "professional" products.

In the back where my kids play, I spot spray, hand pull, or just let the weeds run wild (until I reno this fall).

For my first application, since deciding to take my lawn more seriously, I did a blanket app to get rid of as much of the broadleaf weeds as possible.

I will walk around and spot spray the remaining weeds in a few weeks and try to keep them from coming back with timely pre-emergent applications and better lawn care practices.
