Currently, I am on a little bit under a acre. So, I am looking to purchase a zero turn machine to decrease my mowing time and save some energy. I have a GM1600 that I plan on using in the front of the property once I am done with my reno. I've looked at a few models mainly Toro, after speaking with a dealer yesterday I left the store with a sense that the key thing to consider is the engine, stamped deck or fabricated deck and if the drive systems are sersable. I was told that I should be mindful of systems where the hydraulic systems are sealed and cannot be serviced and that once that system goes bad the mower is basically done for. I have a few questions below if someone can point me in the right direction I'll greatly appreciate it.
1) No Servasable drive system: Should I really be concerned about this a shy away from units that don't have a servicable system and if so are there any machines out there that won't break the bank worth considering.
2) The Stamp Vs. Fabricated Deck: is this really an issue, I am thinking with proper maintenance like washing the mower every few weeks to prevent build up a stamp deck wont be an issue, also, my yard is pretty flat in the back and front.
3) Engine: is the company branded engine really bad, the sales person at the store argument was that because the store branded engine was mostly new, it won't be easy to find parts if it broke down. I was told that the best engines to go with are 2 cylinders (which I agree with this because 2 is better than 1)
4) Deck size: Also, I considered a 42 and 50 inch deck, I don't think 8 inches more is worth paying an extra $400.00 to not have to mow a few passes to get the job done.
