Hi - I Need help deciding on the best grass to sod. I am recreating a new yard after elevating our weekend home after flooding from Hurricane Ian. Our Yard is marshfront in Cherry Grove Beach, just south of the SC/NC coastal border.
My builder says centipede because it is less maintenance since we don’t live their full time, but some research has led me to consider Zoysia. Please advise which may be the the best option and the advantages/disadvantages in our case.
thanks

Centipede is not tolerant of high pH, nor soil with high salt content. If you have shell content in your soil you will never get the pH correct for centipede. You need to test your soil before deciding turf type. Centipede is the easiest to care for, but zoysia, bermuda, or seashore paspalum are probably better suited, however all three are high maintenance IMO with zoysia and bermuda less high maintenance than paspalum.
