As explained in a previous post, I am having to somehow redo a large portion of lawn. (photo attached) This is for zone 3b-4a, full sun lawn. We have had some drought recently. The lawn has deteriorated dramatically.
I have read a number of posts and online comments here and elsewhere about clumping grasses, particularly fescue, creating ugly lawns.
As my problem appears related to fescue, I went shopping for seed without any fescue, but was surprised by what's available. I am trying to find a way to avoid clumping varieties altogether and match the remainder of the lawn. The remainder appears to be a mix that goes back at least 30 years and up to recently had no areas of clumping.
The clumping occurred over the past couple of years, after overseeding some patches with a mix containing chewings and maybe other fescues.
