I have a Scotts Deluxe rotary spreader with edge guard. The bag, unlike those that come from big box stores doesn't have any spreader settings. I'm overseeding my lawn. I have about 8,500 sq ft of lawn and a 50lb bag of seed. I know I need to leave some for bare spots that always occur once the seed starts to germinate.
thanks

The ideal way is to calculate how many pounds of seed you need for your area. It depends on the seed (from 2lb per 1ksqft to 10). Weight it using a scale (bathroom, kitchen or fish scale). Place the weighted amount in the spreader and use the lowest setting that you see stuff coming out. Go over the yard in multiple directions until it is all gone. This will give you even coverage.
