I bought my current house 2 years ago I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with this redbud tree in my front yard. So basically looking for some advice on how to tackle this.

My Bermuda doesn't really grow well under it but I would like to keep it so I want to make it less of an eyesore.

The roots in this pic are a big concern as it makes it difficult to create a mulch edge around (would be close to 12 ft out from the tree) the roots run really close to my neighbors property.

Do this at your own risk, but if that one large root is the only one that is above ground like that, I would cut out the part that sticks up. I have successfully removed 1 or 2 troublesome roots on probably 100 different trees, and have not had any problems. I have never done it on a redbud, mostly ash and maple.
