Wait as long as you can stand it. It won't scalp because your not shading itself out as this point so just let it go. I try to wait at least 3 weeks and if you can stand it 5 or 6 just so you don't rip up any new stolons/roots

Ya mine does as well. Keep them trimmed. At least twice a year make them almost vertical and cut them up as high as you can until it feels comical! You can manage it its just not fun!
The trees are starting to take off in size this summer! I’m reading summer isn’t the best time to trim these oak variety. Since your in TX, what time of the year are your trimming your trees to keep them condensed?

You could do them now and be fine as long as you keep them well watered. I tend to try to do them in May/June and again in Nov/Dec. Best to avoid early Spring due to potential Oak wilt and other issues but otherwise send it. Summer is not a bad time and I am going to do mine in the back in a couple weeks.

An additional point on trimming live oaks, be sure to to use wound dressing on your cuts. It helps protect against oak wilt and other not fun diseases in your tree. Takes no time flat and comes in a rattle can. I use treekote on my trees regardless of time of year.

Thx for the tips everyone. Will stop by HD and pick up that can to use.

Really want to keep these oaks tamed because my front yard isn’t very big

Mowed a bit. Think Pgr expired, but I wasn’t able to spray that or Celsius for the spurge. Pre emergent going down next weekend. At this point of the year, is it pretty much a waste to spray spurge anyways?

I’m moving to Isoxaben next spring to try and help with the spurge

You'll never go back. Isoxaben is a game changer for spurge
