Applied PGR and a preventative dose of azoxy to the front yard. It was only 11 days since my last application of PGR for the front. I have to be mindful to keep tracking growing degree days.

I'm taking some time off of work next week and have a couple of lawn projects lined up. I noticed the front is getting more bumpy as time has gone on. The sidewalk and neighbor strip hasn't had any leveling since August of 2022. The main section of the front was leveled in 2023.

I'm thinking of aerating and doing a light sand top dressing. I've lived in our home since 2022 and have never aerated. The hope is that by removing plugs and rolling with the heavy greens mower will help some of the unevenness. Unsure of if this will work, but it's worth a try. Not optimal time in the season for a major leveling project.

What do you think the increase of bumps is from? Freeze and thaw process would be my guess?

I would have to agree with you. I'm sure that work castings over time have a slight increase of bumps. To what degree I'm not sure.

I did remove a diseased tree in the sidewalk strip in 2022. The ground has sunk some since than.

Aerating can definitely help with bumps. Go over bumpier areas a few times if you can so there’s more space that can be settled in to. Or when you remove cores only remove them from the bumpiest spots.

With woods all around my yard and having had tons of trees removed in the past I feel the pain!

Big difference! I'm guessing you did a reno on it? Went from many different shades of green to a nice uniform color.
Thanks! The renovation to the sidewalk strip and neighbors strip was in August of 2022, shortly after we moved in. I completed the main lawn in August of 2023. The whole front yard is Ryan Knorrs perennial rye grass.

I actually reel mowed the front for over a year with the original grass type like the backyard.

My mini staycation went by and I didn’t do my lawn projects like I planned. This is par for the course when you have young kids.

I was able to play a round at my work which was fun. It makes me want to transition to bent grass and embrace the poa.

I sprayed Pgr, preventative fungicide, and nitrogen tonight. There has been a lot of disease pressure this year. Some of the ryegrass has died off but I’m not too concerned.

I have slightly more crabgrass than years prior popping up. It’s minimal enough to pickup, but I might finally do a pre-m next year. I never do one because I want to overseed but that never happens lol.

I’ll grab some pictures of the lawn tomorrow.

I don't' golf or have experience with the courses, but I do have a lot of creeping bentgrass and poa. Currently at 2.75" HOC which google says is near the rough HOC. Would getting a reel mower and dropping to .5" HOC fairway height actually be viable or are you talking about getting some elite bentgrass cultivar meant for greens?

I was mulling it over last mow and thinking about what it would be like to "embrace" the bentgrass and poa instead of doing a reno one day and continuing to fight it. Now here you are talking about embracing it.

I have a lot of poa in my backyard and it looks good at .75in and under. It just needs a lot of water and regular fungicide.

I’m considering switching to bentgrass in my backyard. It looks really good at sub half an inch and spreads nicely.
You should do a reno.

I’ve been contemplating it for the past two years. The back looks decent but it’s a million different cultivars of grass. Right now it’s shaggy and I don’t have a clean cut.
My wife already gave me permission so I’m good to go lol. I’m debating installing some sort of diy irrigation. Especially if I do bent.

I did DIY irrigation on my yards. The front sucked and I need to redo and the back has worked great. I learned from my screw up on the front!

Photos of the backyard. Lowered the height of cut to .5in. It helped cut everything evenly. If you squint it looks okay.

I worked on the triplex for a bit today. The bolt that locks in the hoc had to be replaced. I want to start using that to save on time.
I wish I was brave enough to mow that low.

I finally fixed the hoc adjustment bolt on the triplex. I raised the hoc as high as it can go which is about .75in. The bench hoc versus actual hoc is vastly different. I would guess that it’s cutting more at an inch. I’ll have to try and get it closer to cutting a true .75in.

I forgot how much fun it is to use the triplex compared to walk mowing everything. I double cut of the front and back only took 10 minutes. I’ll try and use it more this year.

I have the same thing happen when I break out my ZT when it gets too hot to push mow.
“Oh yeah! Rider mowers are fun!”
